Residence Application Fees in Japan: Will 1-Year Permits Become ¥30,000 and 3-Year Permits ¥60,000? April 2026 Update
Japan’s immigration fee reform bill has moved forward in April 2026. Reported benchmark figures include approximately ¥30,000 for a 1-year period, ¥60,000 for a 3-year period, ¥70,000 for a 5-year period, and ¥200,000 for permanent residence. However, the actual fees are not yet in force and will be set later by Cabinet Order.
Has a Japanese Language Requirement Been Added to Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services? April 2026 Update
From April 15, 2026, Japan has clarified when language ability evidence may be required for Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services applications. This does not mean that a Japanese language test is now required for all Gijinkoku cases. The key issue is whether the applicant will mainly engage in customer-facing work using language ability.
