About this mini mock test

This page helps you check JLPT N3-level Japanese in a short mini mock test.

Important: This mini mock test was created independently by Tommy’s Legal Service for learning support and self-check purposes. It is not an official JLPT exam. It does not guarantee success in the JLPT or approval of a visa application.

JLPT N3 is useful for people who have finished N4-level basics and want to check intermediate Japanese before moving toward N2. It is also related to workplace messages, reports, consultation, simple explanations, and short notices in Japan.

What level is JLPT N3?

JLPT N3 is a bridge level between N1/N2 and N4/N5. It is generally described as the ability to understand Japanese used in everyday situations to a certain degree.

Reading You need to understand specific written information on everyday topics and grasp the main points of short passages.
Workplace situations N3-level Japanese is related to workplace messages, shift changes, reports, consultation, and simple explanations.
Before applications Passing a Japanese test alone does not decide a visa application. Your background, employer, job duties, and documents must also be reviewed.

Correct answer: 提出. “申請書を提出する” means “to submit an application form.”

Correct answer: Please ask your employer and confirm the details. “確認する” means to check or confirm.

Question 3: Choose the best expression for the blank.
住所が変わった( )、市役所で手続きをしてください。

Correct answer: 場合. “住所が変わった場合” means “if your address changes.”

Question 4: Choose the best expression for the blank.
日本語を上達させる( )、毎日少しずつ勉強しています。

Correct answer: ために. “〜ために” shows purpose.

Question 5: Read the company message and choose the correct meaning.
「明日のシフトは、開始時間が9時から10時に変更になりました。」

Correct answer: Work will start at 10:00 tomorrow. The start time changed from 9:00 to 10:00.

Question 6: Choose the correct meaning.
「在留期限の前に、更新申請をする必要があります。」

Correct answer: You need to apply before the period of stay expires. “前に” is the key phrase.

Question 7: Which report to your supervisor sounds most natural?

Correct answer: 作業中に機械から変な音がしましたので、確認をお願いします。It clearly reports the situation and asks for confirmation.

Question 8: Immigration asks you to submit additional documents. What should you do?

Correct answer: Check the details and deadline, and prepare the required documents. Deadline control is important.

Question 9: Read the message and choose the correct statement.
「面接は金曜日の午後3時に変更されました。場所は前回と同じです。」

Correct answer: The interview will be at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The location is the same as before.

Question 10: Which statement is correct?

Correct answer: Test results, applicant background, employer, and documents are all reviewed. Visa applications require a comprehensive review.

How to read your score

8–10 points Your N3-level basics are relatively stable. You may continue toward N2-level learning and workplace Japanese practice.
5–7 points Review N3 vocabulary, grammar, and reading. Practice workplace messages and short reading passages.
0–4 points Review N4-level basics first. Build your foundation step by step.
